The Greatest Form Of Advertising Is....
Published in Audio Testimonials, Audio Agency, John Mellis
You've definitely seen or heard the phrase before 'The greatest form of advertising is....word of mouth'
Well, I for one, believe that's absolutely true.
Let me explain.
One of the services we offer at Mellis Media is the audio testimonial, where we meet your valued customers and ask them to tell us all about you.
It's the audio equivalent of those testimonials you see on every other website.
There's nothing wrong with those, as such.
In the right context they work brilliantly, and we believe in the process, but consider the journey travelled by your potential customer to that point.
They've a specific need for a service you provide. They've clicked on your website and read the 'who we are', the 'what we do', and moved on to the case studies.
If they've stuck with you that far, they're interested. Hurrah!
The next step though is absolutely critical. Before they commit to contacting you via your site, they're going to want to check what other people think. It's a natural human trait. You make the same one every time you buy something, whether it's a quick check of the number of people in the restaurant and the plates of food they're eating, or you ask a pal what they thought of the hairdresser/skirt they bought/fresh veg section.
I know, part of me is now also interested in the concept of a skirt-selling barber who conveniently stocks fresh vegetables if we're in a rush to get home for tea - but let's stay on target.
The point is this: your customer's flagging.
Maybe they don't want to read any more. Or possibly they need another stimulus to kick start them through the final part of the enquiry process.
THAT is where audio testimonials come in.
They're your second wind. They take you down the home strait.
And here's the science.
The human brain garners and retains information in short bursts. Clips. It's designed that way. The brain has the most efficient filing system in existence, and sound clips feed it that information in exactly the way the brains seeks to digest it.
We, as human beings, are more receptive to a recommendation from someone we know, a voice we trust, and the voice conveys so many subtle nuances text can never get near.
Our brains read all of them.
Finally, with the human voice, and no picture, our brain has to work a little harder. However, in that case, that's entirely to your advantage.
Your customer isn't glancing at someone wondering if they've brushed their teeth, whether they have a toupee, or nostril hair - they're simply processing the information.
Meet Rosie O'Hara. To the best of my knowledge, her breath is minty fresh, she doesn't wear a toupee, and has no sign of nostril hair!
You can find out more about Rosie and what she does through her website here
These are the testimonials we recorded for her Saturday Coaching Club in Aberdeen.
At Mellis Media we take time to meet and understand your needs, and, in the case of audio testimonials, the time to meet and get to know your clients so they're comfortable in our company, and relaxed to chat at length about you and what you do.
Our recording equipment is completely unobtrusive, so there's not that horrible deer-caught-in-headlights moment you often get distracted by when watching petrified people attempting to chat into a video camera.
The turnaround time is significantly shorter than any other form of media which means it's ideal if time is an issue.
Because, remember, as they say, 'there's no better form of advertising than word of mouth'
